Smile Makeovers: Supporting Dentures with Implants
Have you experienced biting into a piece of fruit and feel your dentures shift? Miss eating certain foods because you aren’t confident enough in your teeth and bite? These are common problems that happen to many people as they age or have had mouth trauma occur. Being told you should get dentures versus trying to maintain your existing teeth is one of the scariest clinical treatment options a patient can be told – so having a dentist that you trust and focuses on full mouth reconstruction is very important when a patient takes this step.
Dr. Cummings frequently has patients who have lost confidence in their smile due to uncomfortable or ill-fitting dentures. As with all his cases, he starts with an initial consultation to discuss what a patient is looking for with their smile. This practice allows a patient the trust that he will develop a complete treatment plan to address their individual mouth concerns.
What is generally involved with the treatment plan? For the problem denture wearer who suffers, patients will have 4 dental implants surgically inserted into their jaw bone. It is not painful and patients rarely take more than an Advil. The existing denture is modified while the implants heal for one month. The new teeth are inserted and the patients are amazed at the secure feeling they have in their ability to chew and speak about this treatment option. See below and our website for some examples of smile makeovers with these procedures.
This patient came into the office concerned because of poor denture fit and constant office visits to try and get the dentures corrected to improve his ability to chew. Dr. Cummings treatment plan included four dental implants to support a new fixed partial denture to replace his upper teeth.
Remember, because Dr. Cummings’ practice isn’t only for dental implants, all his patients continue with treatment until they have the smile that they were originally looking for along with a higher level of confidence in their daily mouth function! Depending on the patient wants - their complete treatment plan can include other procedures such as bite corrections, veneers, crowns and many other cosmetic procedures.
